Depth finder isn't getting any power ... where do I begin to identify where the problem is ?? I can't tell if it is hardwired to the battery or draws power from a primative "alligator" clip hookup, attached to the positive battery terminal .. I played with the this hookup and batteries... no success ..

where is the depth finder?

which model and where is it mounted ... nothing should be off the battery directly especially since there is a decent circuit breaker panel. by the way I can't find out how to tell how much fuel is in my tank on my 272LE ... is there a secret meter somewhere I can't find?

then again

installed a new garmin 162 this weekend ... found the old gps attached to the nav instruments breaker on the hot and wrong side of the breaker ... so you are libel to find any thing once you get into the wiring ... old owner also had a "permanent" attachment for his battery charger by alligator clips on the battery ... and you know how accessible the batteries are on a 272le!

Wiring tracers

What about picking up a cable locator at your local home depot. They are pretty cheap now. Clip them onto a cable and it sends a tone down it which can be located by an induction wand. Basically, it works like a radio. Or check the color of the cable maybe? Unless its red and black..then yer kind of stuck there. Did you check to see if you had power at the unit end? maybe the depth sounder is shot. Electrical wiring is Hell when it comes to fixing it. My best suggestion, run all new wire. Only way you'll ever be sure, and while it might take a some more time it will be alot less frustrating. Josh
