Depth finder replacement or repair

I own a 1985 25.5 and enjoy it very much on the lakes of east Tennessee. I haven't been able to use the boat for several months due to health problems. This weekend I checked out the boat and found that the depth finder is SHOT. I bought the boat used about eight years ago and I'm not sure if the depth finder is original or not. It is a "SR" and is mounted in what appears to be a 4" hole in the cockpit forward. Does anyone know if there is a replacement available without replacing the transducer? Alternatively, has anyone ever returned one of these to the factory for a rebuild? any help would be appreciated.

same problem

I had the same problem on my 33.5. I don't know about sending it in, you can try West Marine repair but I don't know anything about SR instruments or if they're still in business or what. You can try installing a new (different) instrument and the transducer may or may not work, depends on if the transducer is the problem. Different transducers use different frequencies and wiring (2 wires vs. 3 wires) but you might get lucky. If you have a 3 wire trans and try to replace with a 2 wire type, it probably won't work. But I don't think you can damage the new instr. and the worst case is you'll have to buy a matching trans. Good luck.

SR Depthfinder

Just got done with that drill. Had mine (original equipment) rebuilt by SR. Still trying to work out the bugs - I'm on my 2nd transducer. Give Corey a call at SR - 800 654 6360 and see if what repair costs will be, justify it. If I had it all to do over again I would have bought a new in-hull model.Good luck,Al BritoS/V Showtime

If it's 200mhz

If the transducer operates at 200 mhz you might try the west marine depth finder. I replaced a Signet unit with it. Works fine.
