Catalina offers a depth, speed combo from raytheon. It seems expensive. I am buying a new C-22 Mark II. Do I need this, what are the alternatives. I think it would be useful to have a device that would warn me when I hit a programmable depth, say 10', so that I can start monitoring more closely. Any help is appreciated-

How Much

Hey John, how much is Catalina asking for that equipment? I have a C36 with the Raymarine ST60 Tridata. Speed, depth, log, water temp and I love it. I think you can buy this for $600 or $700 for the equipment and istall it yourself. You may do better in price with ST50 speed and depth in seperate units. Regards, Chris

Fishfinder

You can also go with a fishfinder, which works great on my C-27. I get depth, speed, and it has a host of alarms, including shallow water and deep water. Also has a built in volt meter, and you can do a keel-off set as well. Cost is 229 for the unit, about 40 bucks for depth transducer, and another 40 for speed transducer. Best of Luck, Rob

low dollar, good idea

Hey John, Yea, Ron has done what I did, I went and bought a Hummingbird DX200 on sale for about $99.00 plus the speed sensor and the temp. sensor, and yea you do get a bunch of alarm settings, I love it because you can actually see what the bottom looks like, not just a depth reading. Shop around. Sail on, Dean

Sounder

I replaced my sounder last year. I've got a fishfinder with a shoot thru hull sounder. Cheap..less than $150 Cdn on sale. It's great to be able to see the bottom, and that's why i'd recommend a fishfinder.
