depth finder mounting

I just purchased a Humminbird 610 depth finder for my H23. The unit I have came with a puck transducer, which can apparently only be mounted in the hull, rather than on the transom. I am having trouble finding a place inside the hull that will have constant contact with the water, even when heeling, etc. Has anyone found an appropriate mounting poisition in the hull of the H23, or similar boat, that seems to work especially well? Thanks

V-berth hold

When I got a depth finder for my h23, I faced the same problem, and ended up putting it in the v-berth hold up against the aft wall. I chickened out on drilling through the hull and ground a flat spot for it, then epoxied it down. The authorities say this causes some degradation of performance, but I have not noticed any. The only thing we ever stow in that hold is sleeping bags, so there has not been any problems in the roughly 18 years since I installed it. Jim Kolstoe, h23 Kara's Boo

I placed my 'puck' under the cockpit

I had a 87 H23. The depth sounder came with a 'puck' transducer. I placed it in the storage are under the cockpit. It worked great. Mike
