the water pump sometimes works and sometimes doesn't (mostly never). will try to figure out if loose wire etc however assuming the original ('82) would rather just replace.

i'm not at the boat to check the model and would like to get before going. suggested model/size? (catalina 30)

thanks

While your making changes to the portable water pump, consider an accumulator. They are very inexpensive, easy to install, will fit almost anywhere and will add greatly to the longevity of your new pump by dramatically reducing the pump cycling.

I work in a Rv parts dept and any demand water pump should do , they start at 2.8 gal per min which does up to 40 ft trailers so you should have no problems finding something

I hope I didnt make a big mistake but I installed the Shurflo 4gpm wash down pump as my "all in one" fresh water faucet/shower/wash down in lue of the original 2.5 gpm. Is there a down side? I wanted a fresh water wash down in my cockpit so I just spliced into the fresh water side and put a disconect in the cockpit when West Marine had the whole syestem on sale after my other pump failed.

already bought the 2.5 but if no prob with your option would be a good thing. the boat is on a mooring all season so the wash down would be nice.

My original Shurflow 2.8 gpm (7a) pump lasted 25 years. I then bought a Jabsco 2.4 gpm pump that was on sale at West Marine and it sucked! Loud, and the water pressure was pathetic. I returned it and bought another Shurflow (3901-216) 3.0 gpm (5a) and found it to be super quiet compared to the other pumps and plenty of pressure.

I also have a Jabsco washdown pump mounted in my v-berth that, although it has plenty of pressure, had a problem with leaking o-rings.

Personally I wouldn't buy another Jabsco pump given the issues I've had with them. Their customer service was pretty good though and they sent me some free parts for my problems, but to get it to stop leaking I had to buy some softer o-rings locally.

Of course, YMMV. :)
