Tested the self tending jib that I put on my about to be delivered 460. It works as advertised. We made several quick tacks in about 20 knts of breeze and had to do little other then steer. Also tested the Dutchman boom brake that we put on. It also works well. We will need to tighten it up a bit, but all in all it to seems to be working as as advertised. My hat is off to Dave Tomlinson of Crusing Specialists (Alameda, CA) for helping me put all the toys together. The next big item is the Genneker from UK sailmakers. John

Boom Brake

John: Can you give me an idea as to where the boom brake was attached? I have been considering some type of preventer on our 460, but can't see exactly where to fix it to the boat. Also, with the self-tending jib, what size did you end up with? Do you have a furled main on the boat?? It sounds like good equipment which will make handling very simple. Thanks, ROwen Mikayla

I need some install advise too.

Ive had a boom brake, still in the box, for some time now, as I haven't decided now to mount it. Seems "Dutchman" prefers to run the line back along the rail to a cockpit winch, but I wonder if that would have the boom-brake acting like a vang as well, and possibly at a time when I might not want to vang down the boom. Their other method, running ot back to a turning block on the boom aft, and then forward and down to the mast base and then through the organizer sounds better, but that takes up a position in the organizer that is hard to spare. So, I wonder how you did yours, and how it is working out. Thanks.
