Hello everyone. Merry Christmas to all, if you are of a different religious persuation then happy holidays. I am considering a deisel generator for my 1996 C36 mark11. Has anyone installed one, and if so where did they find room for it. Any suggestions or advise would be greatly appreciated. Makes and models , along with distributors would also be benificial. Happy Sailing

2nd Hand Information...

Anton, I have a C-30 and I've heard many good things about the Panda gen sets. Some have been installed on C-30's, so I'm sure you'll find room for one on your C-36. I believe the layout of our boats is similar, so this may be helpful to you. I've heard of two places to install the set: The port lazarette and the aft quarterberth. Personally, I'd choose the lazarette, but some people already had a lot of equipment installed there (inverters, water heaters, etc) and didn't want to re-configure everything, so they chose the berth, which, in their words "was used only as storage space". The limited feedback I've heard is that these gen sets are very quiet and sip small amounts of fuel. Installation requires a mounting surface, a fuel feed line, return line, exhaust port & cooling intake, connectivity to a starting battery and your house A/C system. Not a small job, but definitely do-able. I had a gen set on an older powerboat my parents had when we were growing up. It was a luxury I sorely miss! We had icemakers, A/C and refridgeration that was larger & more effective than any 12-volt system could be. Imagine having all of the conveniences of the dock without the cost, hassle, or annoying neighbors! If you've got the means, I'd highly recommend one. It will really change your cruising experience! I hope this helps! Here's a link to find out more: http://www.pacificnauticalpower.com/Panda.htm Good luck! Allen Schweitzer s/v Drambuie C-30 Hull# 632

Forward of galley sink

I saw a new 36 being outfitted at Inland Sailing Center, a Catalina dealership on Lake Ray Hubbard near Dallas. A Panda was being installed under the bench in front of the galley sink. It looked like there was plenty of room and I was told that leading the exhaust back to merge with the existing exhaust plumbing was convenient. I wondered about the sound level with it setting right in the middle of the saloon but these are very quiet generators. I (hardly) heard one at the South Hampton boat show a few years ago. They are completely water cooled so the case can be completely sealed. Dennis Thomas S/V Anodyne
