Wow. I had to post this here on an open forum, to brag on this company.

(Note to Phil: I don't have any "interest" in this company. But wish I did).

So, I had an equipment malfunction from an item that I purchased there. Had it been an older apparatus, I would have torn into it to see what happened. But being very new, I resisted that urge until I talked with them. I guess I kind of expected them to send me a "repair kit", or who knows.

Oh yeah, I've elected purposefully to not say what it was, as I really think that would be in poor form. It's a notoriously reliable piece of equipment that rarely fails, and they said as much, that they never hear of a breakdown on one of these things. Maybe I was just rude to it. I don't recall cussing it, and I was truly very good to it. It just didn't like me I guess. That's not unusual.

So, they sent me a new one. There is simply no way that they had the time to diagnose the problem with the old one, and I swear, I didn't think you could ship something so fast. Far out!

Due to the nature of this, I am more than sure that Defender bought this one, as apposed to the manufacturer. That really made me feel kind of bad. And I'm a black-hearted scoundrel.

So part of the reason for bragging on them. They have been more than gracious to me in the past, but this was truly above and beyond.

Thanks Defender!

I have had excellent service from Defender and have recommended them to others. Wish there were more people like them.

I just recently had a very minor issue and they went above and beyond to make it right and get me the product I needed at a great price.

I get the same high level of service right here at SBO.

Defender gets the edge because they are a UPS ground day away. I can order something one day and have it delivered the next. This makes shopping for boat stuff so much easier. If only they would pick up Garmin again.

DITTO GUYS,

I recently purchased 2 indentical items, and found that one was a "returned item" that was mistakenly sent back out to me.

(day #1) I called them right away to explain my suspicions. They set up a downloadable/printable return shipping label. Next mourning, the label showed up in my inbox.

(day #2) The next day, I boxed it up & went to my neighborhood parcel store.
That afternoon, UPS dropped off the replacement. All of this before they received the defective one I sent back.

How bout that?
These guys are OK in my book.

i have not had any bad products show up at my door from Defender nor do i know any one who has and yes they are a great companey...

nor have i had any thing like that happen from SBO either....

but in all fairness to SBO i can bet you they are as good as it gets as well ....from what i have seen on this forum...they are a very fair company running there business the old fashion way.... where the customer is the life bread of there success.....and after reading there profiles they appear to have a lot of sea time to back up there efforts in supplying marine goods so there is no doubt that they have the end users best interest at hart even helping some that have had misfortune along the way to the sea who the hell does that any more only SBO.....

thanks for the good job to the staff at SBO.....

regards

They had your name and probably credit info and return #. No doubt you'd be charged for the third one if the defective not received. But still, good service.'

Woody, good post!

Their service is just as good AT the store ! I live a mere 7 miles away and use them all the time.

It's kind of CRAZY during their spring sale...which, OBTW, is coming up in ~3weeks, but they do a great job handling / helping the insane number of customers.

Let me clear something up. IN NO WAY was I saying to use Defender, as apposed to this site. Yes, SBO does have an excellent service, and I would highly recommend them. And I have stated this in the past. Great people.

Notice the part where I neglected to mention the device in reference. PART of several reasons that I didn't, including having no need to blast this companies reputation for a NOTORIOUSLY dependable piece of equipment, and SBO DOES NOT SELL THIS PIECE OF EQUIPMENT!

It seems that a man cannot even brag on a company, without someone with obviously too much time on their hands, or just have the insatiable need to ***** about something..

Easy, guys. There are a number of good marine shopping experiences around, Defender is certainly one of the best and I'd like to think we do okay, too. They sell some things we don't and we sell some things they don't and who to buy from depends on a number of changing factors.

I appreciate the kind words from everyone very much, and please know it is always okay to post good experiences with other retailers.

if my post has started an issue ...that was not my intent.....i only make theses statements because they are true and not to antagonize anyone....i feel that its only fair to show due respect to the host of this site ....i am sure i have posted good thoughts about other vendors from time to time.....being in business i know how hard it is to sit and listen about the competition good or bad...that being said ...keep up the good work.....

My bad as well. I considered all afternoon about deleting this entire thread. I tried to resolve in my mind whether it WAS in poor form to "promote" another vendor, and the truth is, when I originally posted this, it did not even enter my mind that it may be a transgression.
As Woody said as well, I didn't mean to start something, and instead of eliminating my post #10, or the entire thing; it would be very confusing to someone who looked on here later, and tried to figure out what all the "confusion" was about.
So an apology all around is in order. I did fly kind of stupid earlier, and that WAS in poor form.
I had even considered coming back from the yard earlier and pulling my whole account down. What a baby, huh?
Sorry guys..

Hi Chris,

I just want to clarify: it's not a transgression, no apology is necessary, and this kind of post is always welcome here. (It's the negative posts about vendors upset me.)

I'm glad you didn't delete the thread and you can't delete your profile without asking me to do it. And I say no. So there. :)

Ah HA! Just as I suspected. Trapped. It's kind of like the mafia, or a motorcycle gang. You can get in; but ya can't get out.
I hope no new members are reading this, and sees it as the conspiracy that it is. I'll bet Phil knows who was on the grassy knoll. AND who shot J.R.
I never knew what a dark and dangerous place that this is.

Here, we have a scared and angry little man. He thinks it's all over, but it's only just begun.
Sucked into the vortex of evil. FORCED into a life of prostitution.

Whoops. Gotta go. (They make all of us go inside before it gets dark, institution rules).

Thanks Phil..

I always check to see if SBO sells an item before posting a link for someone to another vendor for an item. I usually check SBO first when shopping unless it is a specialty item. Defender is definitely a close second though. Just got my catalog.
