We have a 1999 H340 and would like to wrap the cabin mast support with decorative knotwork. Has anyone done that and if so do you have any info re: pattern, length of rope needed, good reference book etc. Have already wrapped steering wheel and added Turk's head for centerline. Would like to do more in cabin!

I have a friend..

.. who wrapped the mast support post about 8 years ago on his 40. It's looked great for all these years. He did the same thing with the wheel. I wish I had the patience to sit and do it. You can really appreciate the wheel cover when the temps drop and your hands get real cold on those long overnite races in late fall.

Check this book out

get a copy of "The Arts of the Sailor - Knotting, Splicing and Ropework" written by Hervey Garrett Smith. I think I got my copy at WM. Lots of interesting ornamental coverings and nettings. Chuck Dickhut S/V Kililani h31

Thanks, Chuck

Our old boat had a beautifully done wheel, thanks to the previous owners. But I never could find a book to tell me how to achieve the same look on our new Hunter. I'll look for the book you recommended, Chuck, and not have to worry about how I'll spend our long Buffalo winter :).
