Draining hoses and Styrofoam

I just purchased my first C22 yesterday in MA. It's a 1974 that seemed like it was in very good condition, save the cosmetics.

That said, I am obviously a novice sailboat owner. I want to thank everyone in advance for what may appear as elementary posts and for my lack of proper sailboat terminology.

Today i began cleaning up the boat. I came across several issues/concerns that i wanted to run by you all to see if anyone has any guidance to offer. I will post only one or two concerns per post so that It's not too cumbersome for anyone to respond.

First in noticed the previous owner(s) placed in the hull huge chunks of Styrofoam blocks. I presumed this was just a precaution for added floatation in the event the boat was taking on water while out sailing. I removed them all but thought i would see if anyone suggests that i keep them in place or hold on to them. I attached a picture of them here.

Secondly, and more importantly, when i was power-washing the boat today the drains in the cockpit were filling up. There was only one scupper drain screen in place. i assumed it was clogged up with debris so I went in the cabin below the cockpit where the hoses from the drains connected to a pipe (i am new to the terminology..sorry) which then lead to the bottom of the boat to drain. I removed the hoses and cleared out the tubes and it worked just fine.

My question, is that i noticed the hoses were cut from garden hoses that were clamped on. It appeared to do the trick for the previous owner, but i wanted to switch it out and put in the proper hoses etc. I attached a picture for you to see. Can anyone recommend what is the best way to repair this to avoid future leaks?

Thanks for reading.

For peace of mind, I would replace all those hoses with marine bilge discharge hose, stainless steel clamps and all new fittings and valves.

The foam can stay depending on where it is located and how much in the way it is. However, the amount of foam shown in the pictures doesn't look like enough to help in floatation aid.

Please replace all of those original gate valves, & garden type hoses right away with marine grade hoses & ball valve type sillcocks right away, before you launch your boat. If any of them leak, they will sink your boat. The original gate valves that Catalina used in the 70's were crap that belonged on a house hose bib, not a boat!
