I have dameged a one ft. portion of my deck rail. The hull deck joint is now exposed. Does anyone know where I can get some of the same deck rail material as used on the Hunter 28.5 built in 1985? If not how about a way to fix it so it will look good. I have contacted Hunter and they do not have that rail material anymore. Scott

Toe Rails

I have a damaged section of toe rail and talked about it to the yard boss where I had my bottom job done this year. He indicated that new toe rails for the older hunters (mine is an '86) are not available. He had to replace them on one (not necessarily a 285) after one of our hurricanes a few years back and ended up using one from another make (Beneteau, I think).

This has been discussed in the past years extensively and there have been solutions. I would contact Hunter about this as a starting point. They have eliminated this problem on the new boat (no toe rail). Check the archives too. (search for TOE RAIL)

TOERAIL REPLACEMENT

Scott: I wrote about my "tale of woe" about replacing toerails a couple months ago. You should be able to find it in the archives. Simply put, Hunter no longer supports the 1985 toerails found on the 28 and 31. I had to replace both sides after some hurricane damage last fall and Cobb's Marina at Little Creek obtained and installed the replacements. They did a great job even though the new toerails are not exact duplicates of the old. My boat normally sits at the end of "H" dock at the Naval Base marina (right now at Cobb's for some other work) and you are welcome to take a look at their handiwork. Or, contact me directly at "TIDETIM@AOL.COM" and I would be glad to show you the boat in person. Good luck. Tim L.
