Hello, I just purchased a 28ft O'Day. My wife and I are currently refurbishing it. My question is this..The deck has non skid, buff color, patened right into the gel coat. How does one go about painting this? And what is the suggested paint. Thanks

There are choices

I'm planning to re-paint my deck also. PO painted over the non-skid patches, but I've found 3 choices.

1. You can buy non-skip material, either bulk or pre-cut for your vessel. I assume it gets glued into place. A bit pricey.

2. Non-skip paint, made for marine applications. Also pricey per gallon, but I would think 1 gallon would suffice in most cases.

3. Non-skid additive. This is the most cost effective, add it to whatever color paint you want.

Re: There are choices

a boat near mine was recently painted with a somewhat rubberized material that I believe is from Pettit paints. I was impressed, as the diamond pattern of the original non skid was still visible underneath this coating. wish I could be more specific for you. ask around.

Paint if it is only a last resort.
Few paints last for any length of time on a deck.
