I have read many posts about painting with 2 part perfection and I beleive this is the rout I will go.........however, my 430 deck is mostly the diamond shape non skid (grey in colour), and I want to paint over it with white perfection....

if I paint over the non skid with perfection....will it fill in............
how do I scuff up the surface so that the perfection will adhere......

I am worried that with the primer and paint it will make the non skid smooth......and there is no way I am going to sand off the non skid......right

thanks

It has been awhile since I have been on a newer Hunter with the diamond non-skid. It comes out of the mold like that, right? And the gelcoat is the same as the rest of the deck, does not have any kind of grit? Which makes me question why you would paint it?

Assuming you must then either Kiwi, which I find too agressive, or Interlux's Interdeck. I have done decks where you have to mix in the grit and it is very difficult to get a consistent result. I know that Interlux recommends their Intergrip grit for Perfection. I guess you could try it on a small section. It would not be that hard to remove if you did not like the result.

yes...the diamond shapes are molded into the deck and my gel coat is not looking the greatest, the sun has kicked the crap out of it and there are some spider cracks......it has been neglected....

the hull has been awlgripped by proffessionals and looks really good....but the top deck looks like it needs a new top deck, so I need to paint it and I really dont want to add any texture to what I already have.....

dont we just paint over the diamond shapes...........
and some of them are grey in colour, which I would just like to paint them white

this kiwk grip.........does it have texture or is it just paint.....

thanks

I just saw Kiwi Grip at the Vancouver boat show and talked to them and was impressed with the finish. The texture is put on withe the roller and the more thicker you roll it the more agressive it is . I am just preping my deck and intend to use this product as we need a very stable gripping surface as it is my wif up fronnt so we will be doing a very thick coat. Look on there website or check out you tube for the video , its good

Deck Paint

I've used Kiwi Grip on my former boat, a 1980, 27 foot Cherubini Hunter and my present boat a 1992, 35.5 foot Hunter Legend. As note in these posts the thicker and more agressive you are with their textured roller the more aggressive the surface. I did the cockpit sole and the seat by putting it on with a good brush and then adding the low pebble affect but dabbing it with the end bristles with the brush held upright. Worked great, looks great and is not hard on the backside.

The texture of Kiwi Grip is controlled by the person doing the application. We have two boats in our marina that have used it with success.

I would think that doing the cockpit sole would be a good place to do a test of how it is going to cover the diamond grip. I am guessing that it is going to do a much better job than any normal paint.

Once you get a coat of Kiwi on you lift the tape almost immediately. Then you can re-coat it without going too close to the edge if you need a more agressive finish.

As far as color, Kiwi provides color with the product but you can just leave it white.

I will look at the kiwi product..........but nobody here is saying you can just paint the molded diamond non skid............with perfection

..... with Perfection or any other paint would not be a "great" solution. I have seen several decks painted with a regular paint and it just makes the non-skid diamond less effective than it was before the application.

The Kiwi Grip coating needs to be researched with the mfg. to determine if it is the right option. They should be able to discuss this option.

Soda blast the existing paint off, you can get a soda blaster from harbour freight, for 100 bucks, the nozeles for 10 bucks, huge bag of soda for 35 bucks, and all you need is a comprssor to be in business. It will strip all the paint, without damaging the fibergass, and you can then re paint, but if you paint over the existing paint, any imperfections in the existing paint, will show in the new paint.
