Deck Organizers I have an '85 Hunter 31 and I need to replace the original deck organizers. I bought Garhauer replacements, but the mounting holes don't line up, so I have to drill new holes. I assume there is a backing plate of some sort under the deck that these bolts are threaded into. My question is how big is the plate, i.e. how far can I offset the new holes and be sure that I'm in the backing plate?

Just did mine

I have a 84 H30 and just finished doing the same job that you are talking about. The backing plate on mine seems to be at least 3"x6" I had to move one hole for my Gahhauer deck organizers only about 3/8". Fill the old hole with epoxy, drill & tap the new one, and you should be set.

I Had A 1985 H31

I switched to Garhauer deck organizers and rope clutches. Filled the old holes with west system and drilled and tapped the new holes. The plate is plenty big enough to accomodate a quad Garhauer. Laura Annapolis, MD

Just replace sheaves

I also have an 85,in lieu of replacing the entire organizer I was able to replace the nylon sheaves. Remove from deck, drill out corner rivits, with two flat blade screwdrivers carefully pry the aluminum top plate off the sheave collars. Found replacement nylons thru West Marine, (Schaffer). $20 dollars and an hour later good as new. No deck modifications neccessary.
