Can anyone tell me the on-center spacing of the bolts holding the 2 sheaves on the starboard deck organizer? Thanks

Not standard center to center distance.

I don't really know the center to center distance, but I can tell you that it is not the same center to center distance as the shafer organizers. I replaced my original meriman 2 sheave organizer with a shafer 503-40 4 sheave double stack organizer and the center to center distance of the holes was between 1/8 and 1/16 off. Really annoying. I had to drill new holes.

Thanks Anthony

Replacing them?

Dave: Are you replacing the deck organizers? Be sure to look at the Garhauer units. They now have them with ball bearings (if you so desire). They are good quality and a good price too. I have had the same experience as everyone else with these. They all seem to be a little different. I used one of the existing holes and drilled and tapped a new one. Be sure to fill the old hole with some caulking or MarineTex (etc) so you do not get any water in the old hole.

Replacing

Thanks Steve: I need a third sheave and was hoping that the Schaefer stacked sheave would work without re-drilling. However, I guess Anthony answered that one. Dave

I went to Garhauer for mine.

Dave: I did the same thing on my H'31. Needed another one for the rigid vang so I used a stacked organizer. You may get lucky if you stay with the same mfg.

Mine is 58 mm....

I need to replace deck organizer also.. I was at the boat today, and mine is a Rutgersen...and it is 58 mm center-to-center. And wouldn't you know it...Schaefer's double is 57 mm. I looked at another 25.5 a couple of slips down, and his is a Merriman, and it is 54 mm...

More on 58mm

Dave, If you are replacing because the sheaves wore out rather than because you want more sheaves, try this: A couple of years ago I replaced the sheaves in the original organizer (mine is a Merriman). I used Schaefer's #62-031. Works fine. You will need to save the original bushings. Also, before ordering, check that the center hole in the sheave is 5/16" to accomodate the 1/4" bolt plus the bushing. If your organizer is not a Merriman, it should still work if the center hole is 5/16" or Schaefer (or Harken) has another sheave. You can check vertical clearance and get depths for the sheaves from www.schaefermarine.com/hardware. Good luck, Dave Weir "Last Resort"
