I have a 1980 Catalina 30. Recently unstepped the mast did some work (more than planned of course) but mostly wanted to change to an all rope halyard.
So the mast is back up with all new llights, lazy jacks wind vane halyards and everything. Now where do I find the room on the deck to run a deck organizer for 2 lines (to handle the main halyard and main sheet), to a dual rope clutch and have everything line up with the starboar winch so I can safely raise and lower my main from the cockpit. If anyone has done this I would sure appreciate it if you shared your design. I've thought of a couple but not satisfied with my own conclusion. Thanks for any sound ideas.

Walk the dock.

Any two sailors, even with similar boats, usually set their boat up for their own preference. They probably won't be the same. Most lines have somewhat the same position, as for the side of the cabin top that they lie on.
I found, when setting up my boat, that walking the docks and talking to the sailors on their boats was the best way to learn the best setups.
To just copy someone is to repeat his mistakes.
Go forth and learn. You will learn one heck of a lot more than just where to run your lines.
