I found the recent discussion regarding singlehanding an H23 very interesting, more so because I am facing the same situation myself. I think the first sensible step is to lead all the lines (including a jib downhaul) back to the cockpit. Does anyone have any experience with this? How about some slick ideas? I have read Cardwell's "Sailing Big On A Small Boat" and while it has some good general information, it seems to be biased more towards the Catalina 22 and is short on specifics for the H23 (didn't even have a picture). Here is something I saw on a Precision 23. The owner had installed a plate with turned up edges under the base of the mast tabernacle. The upturned edges of the plate had holes in it like a toe rail. Turning blocks for the halyards and reefing line were shackled in these holes, so no new holes had to be drilled in the deck for padeyes.Does a winch now have to be mounted on the cabin top? If so, is there a specific location for it, kind of like the embedded plate in the cabintop of the H23.5? How about the reefing line/topping lift/outhaul, all of which are cleated under the boom at the gooseneck? Looks like I am going to need a bunch of turning blocks/deck organizers/rope clutches....Peter Suah"Raven"
