Does anyone know where I can get new caps for my deck fills. They are the type that you only turn 1/4 turn to take them off. You use a winch handle as a key. Failing that new washers would be useful. It seems a shame to have to replace the whole fitting.
Thanks Pete

Deck fills have rubber "O" rings on them to seal out water and debris. Fuel deck fills in particular need to have these rings replaced every year or two. This is a common unseen source of water entering the fuel tank causing endless problems for boaters.
They are so inexpensive I replace mine every year.

I would like some for my 84 hunter 34 as well. I have one cap cracked and could use seal washers for all three caps. The seals are flat on this type fitting. Anyone know a source?

Oh I wish it was that easy. These have a flat rubberlike/cloth washer. I have tried to replace this with an o-ring but with limited success. You can't tighten hem down too much or they pop off. The caps themselves are faded and we want to replace them as well.
Thanks for the reply Alan ...count yourself fortunate you don' have the same.

This is the kind I used. I prefer the plastic cap because it doesn't corrode. They are very inexpensive. Also no need for any tools, the cap has a built in flip up handle, very nice.

Alan, do these have threads? The ones we have only take 1/4 turn to take them off. Would these work?

Maybe Alan would share with us where he got those? I haven't seen them before.
Thanks

Be glad to share.

Peter, I don't remember if I had the 1/4 turn caps on my old 34. If you can't find those caps it's a rather easy task to replace the entire deck fill. If you use the glass filled plastic, they are both strong and durable at a great price.

Yep...thats what I was afraid of. I have search prior to this post and couldn't find the caps.
BOAT B=bring O=out A=another T=thousand.
It looks as though a whole replacement might be nessessary. Of course it couldn't be easy.
Thanks Peter

Ya, after I went to the link from this sight and it was inexpensive. Just one more job on my list. I did go to a hardware (the old type not the Big Box) store though and tried a similar rubber washer from the plumbing section. Seems to be tight for now until I can change them.
Thanks for all your help guys.

Are you aware that it's very easy to make rubber washers/gaskets?

All the big box hardware stores--and every other hardware store too--has rubber gasket material in sheets...not BIG sheets, something smaller than an 8.5" x 11 piece of copy paper. And they're very inexpensive. Surely anyone who just a little more mechanical ability than is required to turn a door knob can make all the washers/gaskets (but NOT o-rings...they're a different animal) needed in any piece of equipment.

Sheesh...even I can do that!
