one of my deck drains aft by the wheel. the gel coat is cracked and theres a 2x1 inch area that I can stick a scew driver in. I started to dig out the dirt and what looks like old fiberglass and clean the hole out so I can patch and seal it. Was wondering if this area is solid or should it be hollow under the decking? I plan to clean it out and fill with fiberglass. seal it and paint non skid over it. thanks for any advise.

Rotted coring

is most likely the culprit. Had the same problem with my '77 h30. You can do one of two things. Remove the top layer of glass, remove the old coring and and replace with new marine or good cabinet grade plywood and reglass and paint or drill several 1/2 in. holes, let dry, inject resin, fair and repaint. West System sells a manual for about three bucks that take you through the process step by step. Time consuming but by no means rocket science. -Roland s/v Fraulein II
