My 1988 Catalina 30 needs new paint on the deck. The non-skid is currently grey. The painter is recommending that I go all white or white and tan. He thinks this would make the boat look more modern. I know this is a matter of taste but has anyone changed the color of the non-skid on the deck of their 30, to what color, how did it turn out and do they feel that it improved the look of the boat? Thanks

No, but

I have seen some boats with white painted decks and I think you have to be careful about glare from the sun from all that white. I think the grey decks look better. Good luck, Jim

stay with grey

I had grey on a 25 and white on a 30. Most Catalina's I have seen are grey and it is modern enough for me. The white does get dirty. If I had to re-paint it would make sence to stay with the same color. It will hide any imperfections that you may have.

I painted my 77 Cat 30

And used an Interlux "White revisited". It is a flater white with less glare than say Mediterian white. It worked out nice as a contrast on the non skid areas compared to the brighter med white. It is all in the sight of the beholder and its your preferance. Good luck.

Grey

New Catalinas are delivered with grey decks. Not even an option. You used to have the choice between beige and tan. My '99 is grey...i like it! Looks great with the grey rub rail. Doug
