My Mariner which has started with max 2 pulls since I've owned it. It started yesterday took me out past the jetties on the lake. Then after my sail before it became to hot. I pulled on the start cord after packing my sails back up she started on the first pull and pushed me about 75 feet the died. It looks like I'm getting plenty of fuel. I'm not sure but either I'm not getting any spark or the plugs are completely fouled out. Is it common for 2-stoke engines to kill spark plugs like that or should it at least try and fire over. Any suggestions before I take it to the repair shop ? I figure I will try and change the plugs ? Beyond that I'm lost help ??

Plugs

I would try new plugs. I have a mariner 8hp also. It hasnt died on me yet but has had problems starting. I put in a new plug and it started right up. By the way, does the 8hp have a charging system on it for the batteries?

Mariner 8

I too have a Mariner 8 hp which died on me. I bought it in the middle of June 2000, used it three times for maybe a total of 2 hours. On the fourth use, as I was motoring out to sail, it just died. I took the cover off and found that when squeezing the fuel ball, it spit gas out of something in the front of the engine. I returned the engine to the retailer, and after some hassel, got a new engine. The retailer wanted me to send a 2 week old motor into repair under warranty. Now a year later the new engine is now in the repair shop because the tiller throtle control broke on me. Thankfully we have sailboats right!!
