DC Air Conditioner

The 110 air conditioner on my 92 Hunter Passage is tired. I’ve read a couple places about DC Air Conditioners used on boats in Europe. It would be nice to have air conditioning available when on the hook without needing a large AC generator. Any folks out there with DC Air Conditioners?

Just remember that DC does NOT lower the power requirements that much, just 10-20%. You would probably need 3-4 additional batteries to carry the load, since this is additive to the load you have. And a way to generate that power during the day (a few hours of engine will not do it and you don't have room for that much solar).

Figure out the BTUs, look at the amp draw for 10 hours (cool-down plus sleeping) (assume only about 50% of full load since it will be coasting at night), and see what you need to add.
