Oday Daysailer Toledo
I am new to this forum. I am the Skipper of a Sea Scout Ship near Toledo Ohio. We recently acquired an O'day Daysailer 1982(?). We need some hardware and have already sent an email to DR Marine since most people have recommended them for O'day parts.

One thing I forgot to ask and will follow up with is the mast. It is a two part hinged mast. The boot or material around the lower section is no longer there or is falling apart. Does anyone know what goes there to keep the water out of the cutty?

We are also looking for a manual for this boat. The number located on the transom is XDY 12077 M82 J-D. I/we are trying to teach the youth what to look for and how to repair and get parts.

Any assistance you can give would be appreciated. I will get some pictures up as soon as I can.

There was no "standard" mast-boot on the DS II. You may have to make a new one or have one made by a cavas shop if you feel the need for it. I don't have one on my DS II, but may add one someday. One idea is to use the rubber "tube" of a plumbing pipe splice, you wil lneed to trim it to fit, but a few owners have fit that around hte mast and into the deck hole (mast partner).

As for a Manual, D&R sells a photocopy of hte original 2-sided instruction sheet (11" x 17"), I think Rudy chagres around $9-10.00 including postage. I have expanded that original sheet (luckily, one came with my boat) into a booklet form and added many additional pictures and diagrams. I offer this Expanded Manual to DS II owners for the same $10.00 charge as D&R. I also include scanned copies of the various DS II Sales Brochures that I have.

I'm a new DS II owner as well (1976). My prior owner gooped copious amounts of silicone around the gap between the mast and cuddy roof. I removed all of that, and picked up a free mountain bike inner tube from a bike shop. I cut a piece about an 1.5" long and fed that onto the lower mast up close to the tabernacle. I cut another 1.5"piece and fed that on just below the first. I installed the lower mast and pushed/rolled the lower tube piece down into the gap. I then pulled the upper tube piece down over the first. I think it will keep most if not all of the water out and looks pretty good as well. We'll see how well it holds up.
