Has any had experience with installing davits on a Legend 37 or similar boat? I've seen pictures of an installation on a 37.5 and it had the advantage of the stern rail extending aft due to the built in seat. The problem as I see it is that with the reverse shear, and a dinghy with beam of 5' 9", the davits have to be quite long to get a vertical lift versus drag the dinghy up the stern of the boat. Maybe I am missing something in the geometry of the situation!

Pushpit Mountings

For anyone considering using the pushpit for mounting anything of significance I'd recommend checking the size of the pushpit anchor bolts and how the bolts are attached to the 1-inch pipe. My H-35 has quite small bolts, say 1/4 or 3/8 inch, based on distant memory, and they appear to be spot welded to the inside of the pipe/tube. I've seen many a davit installation that uses the pushpit railing as it's means of overturning support. What keeps the whole thing from overturning is the angle the pushpit makes on the port and starboard side and the pull of the lifelines. The pushpit anchor bolts for the most part seem to only prevent slipage. If one is installing davits to support a dingy which doubles as a life raft and this is the only means of redundancy in the event of the mother ship sinking then I'd recommend looking closely at the mounting system to ensure you're comfortable with it. Weight of the dingy plus any stuff like outboard, fuel, water, or what ever, in it could severely stress the system that holds the davits. Hope this provides some food for thought.

i installed forespar davits on my 35.5, and they arnt long enough to raise and lower the zodiac into the water without touching the transom, but its not that big of a problem and still worth the added fuss.

Kingston Davits may work

My Hunter 34 also has a rather large reverse transom. The Porta-Bote is about 5' wide, but there is still about a half a foot of clearance when it's lowered. I bought the Kingston davits from Defender for less than $600. I also bought the motor lifting adapter for about $75. After the initial concerns about drilling sixteen holes into the transom, the installation was straight forward and easy. :^) ~ Happy sails to you ~ _/) ~

I've considered putting davits on our '87 Legend 37 but haven't done it yet. I've look at several styles in our marina and Kato Marine's product is impressive and the reviews have been good. Kato reports that they have installed on the Legend 37. Good Luck. Link below.
