Hi everyone, just wondering if someone can help me with a question concerning our 37c. We would like to install a set of davits for our tender as our ages are getting tender as well and I quite like the St.Croix 500 set of davits. I am wondering if anyone out there has them on their boat and are they a good choice, Thank you and Happy Sailing,

Funny, never heard of them until your post. Now I see most of the chandleries stock them: http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|294|288264|551332&id=161613 . Is this the model you are asking about? Then there is one heavier, model #488.

I have always towed my inflatable without any issues. And I think I would not like my view over the stern to be blocked. But there is the problem with what to do with the dinghy if you leave the boat for an extended period. Right now mine is stored in a marina rack shed. In NC I had to pay extra to put it on the dinghy rack. So it might be time for me to consider one also.

hauling the dingy.

The problem with davits on a 37c is there is not enough room.

The boat is narrow on the transom so the boat would stick out both sides, secondly there is not enough room to mount the davits on the stern. then with the top coming all the way back it is very hard to get in a position to work the davit.

I have studied it a lot. the only thing i saw that would work out is a life that attaches to the stern of the dingy then rotates the dingy up behind the boat bow up. This system tows the boat in the down position stern first with the transom to transom bracket that lifts the dingy up a few feet behind the mother ship. the bow follows draging behind untill you pick up the bow with a topping lift of sorts.

they are advertised pretty often in the boat mags.

Thanks guys, some good advice, I also thought of a tow bracket that svivels, so will go back to the drawing board and contemplate, Thanks again Jeff

EdS to EdA, over! Not necessarily. You remember Mike Alge? He built that nice wooden dinghy, maybe I have some pictures. He came down to NC from Lake Erie and back home with it hanging on davits. He has a '79 identical to mine. It did really stick out both sides. And I think he had to tow through the Erie Canal. I'll write to him and get his thoughts. I have not seen him around here for a long time.

Found it.

Hi again, well guys, spoke to a couple of my Australian Shipwright mates and gave them the transom width and the davit diagram and they just said go for it Jeff, just make sure you back the locator plates under the deck (not sure how yet) and will give me any pointers I need if I have any troubles during the install. So I have ordered the davits and so will fit them when I have the boat back out in about September and will post the job with pictures on the Hunter Owners Modifications, 37c. Thanks Ed for the photo of the 37c with davits, looks a really nice dinghy as well. Cheers, Jeff and Happy Sailing

Let us see the end result Jeff. And keep to a short dinghy. Don't want too much overhang. Sometimes it is going to be better to tow. You will know when.
