I've heard some old salts saying that using only one sail (i.e. only main or only jib)in strong winds is setting up very high stresses in the rigging and may lead to loss of mast.Is there any truth to that ?
There is an article in October's Cruising World about this. They say in heavy weather, if you are inclined to use only one sail, to use the main rather than the head sail.Fair Winds,Jack B-411
