DANFORTH compass light

My 2004 H36 has a Danforth compass and the red light has blown. Can anyone tell me where to find a replacement bulb. West marine was no help they were more interested in selling me a new compass. I have looked online but have come up empty. The only identification on the bulb is R53. Thanks.

I was able to find a replacement bulb somewhere local, but it was a few years ago and can't remember where, you can get the parts from Viking Compass but they seem a little pricey.

Have you thought about trying to adapt the spent lamp base to use a/some LEDs ? If you could make it work, might be the last time you'd need to worry about it.
