Dampness under mattresses

Hello,Just returned from 2 weeks along foggy Maine coast in our 336 and learned to really appreciate radar. Every morning we found a lot of moisture collected under the stern berth mattreses, almost puddles. My guess is that this resulted from condensation since we were generally in warm moist air, riding on the cold ocean; humidity never went below 68% and most of thje time was well above that. Is my assumption correct?First mate and I don't recall this happening in prior years.thank you,Bob & CarolynPilgrim

Bob, check the archives,this a common problem and you are correct in your assumtions about mosisture/condensation. Check out the link below for a product that will solve this problem.Hope this helps !

We Hypervent too!

We had a two years of serious condensation under our mattress in Wisconsin and this year Hypervent took care of it completely.Relatively inexpensive and easy to install.And actually adds 1" of additional padding under mattress.

Another product, not as soft...

On our 356, we sleep over the fuel tank and the water heater. We found condensation on the bottom of our mattresses also, from the differences in temperature. We were told that an insulation was needed (why doesn't Hunter do this at the factory?) From Home Depot, we bought two 5 feet x 8 feet sheets of the material that is used to insulate air conditioning units, a hard foam with a thin metal covering. I made other cuts to allow access to the stuffing box etc., and, voila, no moisture. This is the first I have heard of the Hypervent material, but it sounds a lot softer (our stuff is as hard as but much lighter than wood actually.) I don't know about the difference in cost. It may be a quick fix while awaiting the Hypervent material.Al

Camping pads

At Walmart and some outdoor stores, there is a foam material that comes in 3X6 sheets. It has a moisture barrier on one side. Buy a number of these pads and cut them to go under the foam mattress in the cabins. They are made to go under bed rolls when camping on the ground. They are a lot cheaper than the Hypervent pads and do the same thing.
