I know the unwrapping of the sailboat is still some time off but wanted to start prepping for when the time comes. I lowered my mast at the end of the season and discovered that there was damage where the Jib Halyard comes out of the mast. Just wondering if there’s another part inside the mast or if it’s just the halyard exit plate? I’ll be ordering a new exit plate from the store anyway but just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing anything. Thanks in advance.

Something looks really wrong there in your picture! It looks like your jib halyard is turning directly on the exit plate. I'm surprised you can even haul up the jib. There should be some sort of sheave there, over which the halyard turns.

Figure out the make/model of your mast. Go online with that info you should be able to find the parts information online and confirm what it supposed to be there. I know Z-Spars (now US Spars) has the mast schematics online. I'm assuming you have a pre-2000 Z-Spars so I have included a link to the catalog. It looks like it is not just an "exit plate" but a whole assembly that includes the necessary turning sheave.

Looks like just the exit plate/sheave is broken. The pieces are probably down at the bottom of the mast but they shouldn't cause any trouble. Easy fix with the mast on the ground.

Check your jib halyard for damage after you replace the assembly. A turn like that is certain to damage (or have damaged) your halyard. The brokey assembly is probably in the bottom of your mast.
