Continuance...the story
Mike I will give the the naming story. In 1996 about late October, I backed a 23 Paceship down my driveway. My wife was livid! Not pleased would be mild. However, she did know that I owned boats and that my family owned boats before I was born(this is over 50 years.)Anyway, my goal was to launch it March 15th. I did that with a friend as a day sail for the afternoon. On the maiden voyage, it started to snow to the point I could not see shore. By the time we got back to the ramp, the boat had about 3/4" of snow on the deck. We lowered the mast and trailered it home. My wife was not amused. In late May I finally talked my wife into joining me on the boat. We, my wife and two of my daughters, headed to the boat on a Friday night. We sailed as we watched the sunset then headed back to the mooring. Well, my wife , not being a boater was not happy running between boats on the way to our ball and it's dark!Well, I picked up the mooring and thought to myself, " that should make her feel better about sailing."Well, we sat on the boat that night and played poker with my daughters. The whole time thinking of boat names to be put in a hat. Well the first name out of the hat was Death trap, the second was titanic, I finally said that is it give me a real name. The youngest said how about "Tack Me" and Thus the first name. That night the temp dropped to 17 degrees. We had no heat and the girls, all three of them cryed and wimpered most of the night. We were stuck there , what could I do. The next morning there was ice in the cockpit and along the shore.I owned that boat for 4 years an was on the boat from Friday night to Sunday night from April 15th to October 30. My wife was on the boat 5 times in those four years.Need I say she hated this mistress that I owned. I could not explain to her the freedom and peace I felt on a boat. Well at the end of the 4th year I sold the boat. The flack from the Home Front was just ripping me apart. I went almost a year without a boat. Then in September, 3 days before 911 I pulled my 78 O'Day 25 home from Indiana/St.Louis area. I backed it down the driveway. We started with the naming process. My brother casually said to me I hope this doesn't become EXHIBIT "A". I told that to my wife and she said "that will be the name!"Then she said "If I ever get tired of you this will be EXHIBIT"A"."Thus My second sailboats name was EXHIBIT'A'.Well early that season I begged her to spend the weekend with me. With her being 5'-2" she could walk through the boat. Then she realized the peace of being on the boat away from every thing. We had two great summers enjoying EXHIBIT"A".That fall, I bought another 79 O'Day 25 to repair and resell. Well I worked on it all winter and it did not look like I was going to finish it by spring so we decided to sell EXHIBIT"A" and keep the 79. Well we ended up name hunting again and she told me she would give me a Continuance on my marriage. Ahh thus the name Continuance. I have to admit, the constant questions have driven us nuts. Are you an Attorney? no I am not. OH, your wife is an attorney. No, she is not. So why did you name the boat..... Then I would have to tell this whole story. My wife has already chosen the name for the next boat. It has nothing legal in it. That is good for two reasons. No more questions about being an attorney and that maybe she is not planning to get rid of me anymore
