Thanks for the encouragement. It looks like my homemade tool isn't up to the task. I'm thinking that I'll remove the strut and cut the bearing out as per your tutorial. But first i will have to dig out all the filler someone used to fair the strut!
If it were me I would pay the small amount to have it pressed out with the real tool!!!!

cutlass bearing removal

There is a special tool you can buy to remove the cutlass bearing while the shaft is installed.

Tool

Does anyone have a price for this tool or I know a Marina is pretty
far but maybe some one knows where to rent a good tool for the job.
I took my shaft out but not the strut and taking that coupling off
was not that easy and my boat was a 2007 not too old and the cutless
bearing came out and back in easy compared to taking that coupling off.
I did do it all with the help of Mainsail's link and just saying a shame you can't fine that tool and I did need to add some heat to remove that coupling
but followed everything Mainsail showed with the bearing and maybe a little
heat with a berna matic torch is all I used.

Strut

I replaced my strut, it came with a cutless bearing installed, miller island propellers bought out Dahmer Marine. Miller Island is who I bought mine from.

i've removed the strut and used Mainsails technique to remove the bearing. The new one pressed in without any problems. Now the hour and half drive back to the boat to reinstall the strut and prop.
