I am replacing my cutless bearing on my '84 Hunter 34. Can anyone give me a source to purchase it?

I purchased the cutlass for my 1985 Hunter 34 at West Marine. The specs are; 1” X 1.25” X 4”. The West part number is 381467 and can be found on page 357, cost is 59.99. Most chandleries carry or can order cutless bearings. This summer I bought the bearing from West and assembled a long 3/4" bolt, washers and nuts so I could press out my old bearing. When I started to replace mine, I discovered the shaft cannot be pulled out with the rudder in place. It was a case of pulling the rudder or the engine to get the shaft out of the way so I could use my long bolt bearing puller on the cutlass. Instead I hired the maintenance crew at Tidewater Marina in Havre' de Grace. They used a hydraulic press that works with the shaft in place. The bill was 260.00 and included the cutlass bearing. I think it was money well spent as I did not have to fabricate or buy a split collar adapter to press out the old bearing. Yes, West marine took back the bearing I got from them. This was the only maintenance item this year that I paid someone else to do for me and I know it was the right thing for my boat, my time and my wallet.

There is a tool available to replace the cutlass bearing in the strut with the shaft in place. However, you are going to have to beg to borrow it because most yards will not like loaning it out. I was lucky and the job took 15 minutes.
