Cutlass bearing

I need to replace my cutlass bearing on my C30TR.Does anyone know the proper size i need to purchase and from where I may obtain it. Is it an easy process to replace by myself or should a boatyard mechanic perform the task?

The Factory rep can give you very precise info on the bearing for your boat. It has to fit both the shaft and the strut.The boat, of course, needs to be hauled & you'll need to pull your prop. Replacing a cutlass bearing involves a "puller" to get the old one out, as well as a way of forcing the new one in. You may be able to borrow these tools from another boater or club in your area. Unless you are an experienced mechanic it might be a challenging job.Don't forget to re-cotterpin the prop & install a sacrificial zinc on the shaft before launching.--Ron

Cutlessbearing

I will try to replace my cutless bearing in a few weeks the bearing is a 1" shaft 11/4"bearing and it is 4" long my came from w est marine2003catalog page 253 #381467 In sail mag last month they showed how to replace the bearing and make the tool to do it .My yard tells me its a big job and they just cut the shaft off and replace it from the moter back for about 850 bucks I think I could do that so I will spend a saterday tryind to get the old stuff off I thought I would replace my stuffing box and put a rubber drive line protector on for vibration. I will call catalina for a price onall the parts incase my yard was right and I cant get the shaft out. good luck JohnOlson
