My 1987 Hunter is now 14 years old. I would like to pull the shaft and check the cutlass bearing. I also plan to install a flex coupling between the connecting plates, adjust the motor supports, and realign the engine(Yanmar 2GM20F) to the shaft. I would be interested to know about the things to watch out for or beware of and any shortcuts or tips from those who have successfully completed this procedure.

Check for Free play on the Shart

If the shaft has little or no play at the cutlass bearing, it ain't broke so don't fix it. Getting the flange off the shart can be challenging. Then you need to decide whether you will remove the rudder or strut. Frequently a hack saw is required to get the old bearing out. If you have the original motor mounts they likely need replacement by now. No experience with the flex coupling. Since my h34 went 18 years without one it may not be necessary. Barry

Bearing Replacement, Flexible Coupling, etc

Check the archives under my name. I went through this last year and described the whole process in a couple of messages. Good Luck, Allan
