We have a Cruisair SX16 on our B361 which I think is loud. Was on a friends boat last weekend who had a newer Cruisair, but had a sound cover on it and I was amazed on how reduced the noise was.

I checked with a distributor for Cruisair for my model but they don't make one for my older model. Our boat is a 2000 and the A/C is the original unit. Has anyone ever made a custom sound cover for the compressor portion of the Cruisair or done anything similar to lower the sound?

Thanks in advance,

That is an old unit (end of life cycle) Are you sure the sound is coming from the compressor? If you press against the frames and piping while the unit is running you are likely to find loose fasteners, broken supports, rubbing plumbing, worn fan motors, bent fan blades. Cruisair doesn't support the older units, production went to Florida and Dometic corporate.

I'm on the boat now checking it out. I can't locate anything loose or rattling, it just seems loud compared to others. When I run just the fan/blower, even at the highest speed, it's quiet and moves a lot of air. But when I set to cool or heat, and the compressor kicks it, that's where it seems really loud, but it works fine. On cool, the air is really cold, and when set to heat, it's really warm. Maybe this model and age is just this noisy.

Looks almost like the same one that I have. It's loud when the compressor turns on. It depends on what you deem loud. When just the fan runs, it's relatively quiet depending on what speed the fan is set to.
