I am looking to purchase cushions for my beneteau, and was wondering if anyone had suggestions. I have been looking at Bottomsiders cushions, does anyone have any comments concerning these cushions? Charlie

Hi Charlie - I have my third set of BottomSiders ordered from this site (don't worry, third boat!). I personally would recommend them to anyone - great solution. Check out the Owner Reviews at the Related link below. Best, Trevor

I agree

I have bought two sets of bottom siders from this site. The first for my Catalina 27 and the second for my Beneteau 361. I have had no problems and I have been very happy with them. good luck Charlie Gruetzner S/V Angels' Grace Beneteau 361

c-cushions

i bought a complete set of bottom siders from this site. (catalina 380 #379) i had them for about 3 months before they started to deteriorate. they developed what could best be described as cellulite. hundreds of dimples. also they punctured very easily. i have had c-cushions on 2 other boats (one set for 1-1/2 years, the other for 2-1/2 years....there was never a puncture, dimple or any flaw in the c-cushions. i contacted bottom-siders and talked with the tech people and the owner. i sent them digital pictures of all punctures and dimples. their response was that it was due to mishandling on my part. they said they would look at them if i returned them at my expense. they tried everything they could but would not replace them. their advise was to flip them over on the other side. i explained that i had planned to do that in a couple of years, not a couple of months. i think what happened is the vinyl was too hot and thin when they were dipped. they have never been as stiff as the c-cushions. in my opinion, bottom-siders are inferior. i know for a fact that they are not reputable when it comes to backing their product.

Alternatives

Years ago we skied with those old Ensolite vests. They were hot and uncomfortable, they sort of "stuck" to your skin. When the newer nylon covered versions came out, they were a marvelous improvement. Thus when it came time to order cushions for our Cat 320, we wanted the more traditional look of canvas and were a bit dubious about Bottomsiders even though they enjoy an excellent reputation. We purchased a set made out of Textalene, a woven polyethylene polymer that breathes. We purchased them from the Sailboatowners.com chandlery on this site. They are superbly made with contrasting piping and included all the necessary stainless snaps to install. They have a more traditional look with modern convenience and comfort. They are comfortable, good looking and I highly recommend them. They are not in the online catalog, but an email inquiry will get you an immediate response and a fast quote. SBO.com provided outstanding service and they also arrived before thier scheduled delivery date....I have no financial interest in this recommendation...just extremely happy with my purchase.

Try Sail Net

I purchased a set of cockpit cushions from Sail Net 2 years ago. They still look like the day we received them. They made us a "closed" cell cover beaded with matching Sunbrella color for our canvas. The price was the unbeatable and they delivered the product on time as they promised. I would use them again in a heartbeat! Fair Winds, Jack Beneteau 411#84

DIY

I have recovered all the interior cushions on my '76 P28 with Sunbrella furniture fabric using a cheap Brother sewing machine and a good quality heavy duty needle. I am now sewing my own custom cockpit cushions with regular sunbrella and they are coming out as good if not better than any commercially available product. I am using the rubber mesh shelf lining for the bottoms so they grip the cockpit seats. I did not sew in any piping. I hate the feeling on the back of my legs. Another plus is that sunbrella can be washed and is breathable. This is not a complicated project. It just requires a steady hand and some patience. BTW, total cost is less than $200. Bought a large quantity of Sunbrella on Ebay and will likely sell for near the same amount after cutting off what I need including some spare for repairs if needed. About a $100 rebate after I sell the Sunbrella. Tim R
