Cushion Storage "repost"

I will be storing my sailboat outside with a Tarp covering. I don't have a place to store all the cabin cushions so I was hoping to leave them aboard. I was thinking that if I put them in large trash bags and duct tape them close that it would keep the moisture out. How have others handled this dillema? I also live in the Northeast.

Leave 'em aboard with room to breathe.

Leave all your lockers open, stand your cushions on their side with room for air to circulate around them, then close down the boat for the winter. Do not put them in poly bags of any sort. There will be many temperature fluctuations over the winter months - if the cushions are in a sealed poly bag you will have a condensation problem.

Air flow is key

Air flow is key--you want air to circulate around the cushions, top and bottom. Turn them on their sides. Make sure they are clean and dry before leaving them for the winter. jimq26 is right--you don't want them wrapped in a bag of any sort, as trapped moisture, or the condensation that is almost certain to occur, will cause them to get musty and mildewed. If you can ventilate the boat in any way over the winter, so much the better. Randy
