Catalina 27 marina del rey
Hi all - we are considering the purchase of a 1988 Hunter 35 Legend (upgrade from a '72 Catalina 27). It fits our budget and wish for open transom, two cabins, and hopefully a bit faster from LA to Catalina. The port and starboard cockpit benches, which are contoured /curved up along the edges to keep you in your seat while under way - seem like they may be uncomfortable while hanging out on the boat v flat bench tops (stretched out reading, eating, etc). We don't sail for extended periods, just day sails or over to Catalina to moor for long weekends /a week at a time, and want to be comfortable hanging out at the marina as well. I know, I know, it's a very very minor consideration compared to many other issues and my husband is not concerned, but does anyone have experience with these seats and cockpit comfort? Maybe cockpit cushions help? I know the 35.5 is great, it's just also more $$$. Thanks.

Some friends had one and their complaint other than the small cockpit was the cockpit benches were just too short to stretch out and read or nap without keeping their knees bent all the time. Suggest you give it a try, it might be a better fit for you.

Belated reply about cockpit seats

Hi Megs, I'd tend to echo what Steve wrote with the suggestion about 'test driving' the cockpit seats. What works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another and trying them out would be a good way to go.

For us, they're fine but your mileage may vary.

Also, check your emails - I sent a reply to your questions today. By now, though, you're probably past the decision point or maybe looking some more. Just goes to show how often I check my mailbox!
