curious thing about buying a used boat...

What I find really offensive is your continued insistence to call the guy a liar in an open forum. You have shed no light on your immature claim. You gloat that you got the better of the person. You must think that we are all impressed with your prowess at denigrating somebody who may or may not participate in this forum. Nobody here has heard the other side of your story. How is anybody to judge whether or not you are the liar?

You're proud of what you bought, that's fine ... why not simply commend the guy for delivering more than you expected? Your attitude toward a guy who sold you a boat that you are now happy to own is very puzzling, given the circumstance.

Don't you know that one-sided stories are rarely believed or trusted, especially when the only person praised is one-self.

pride has nothing to do with it... Luck has everything to do with it.

it was never my intent to make the point of this thread as showing anyone to be dishonest. I never meant for him to be in the lime light in this thread... you did that.

but maybe someone can take from the story that when a man swears hes telling you the truth, and spouts forth credentials to back up his story, it can still be a lie...

my intent was only to show what I thought I bought has turned out better than expected.... and this happened because of what the previous owner told me... which was false. and yes, I did kind of itemize it out, but this was to show that were several times I was led to some stray impression that has actually turned out much better...

as others have said, if I would have done a proper inspection and inventory, i would have known all this before purchase, and then there would be no story. but I didnt do that, and as the chain of events has happened, this is the result... he put it all in motion and I just wrote the events...

this was never a post about running a man down, but more like watching a man dig a hole and freely giving the gold to someone else (and I didnt know he was doing it at the time)... there should be no problem with that.

This past Thursday, I almost ran afoul of a less then honest boat seller.

I ran across a 16' Hobie with newer sails on a trailer and the seller was only asking $375 for the package. The boat looked like it had been covered in tree sap but nothing a good pressure wash, a day with the sander and some paint couldn't fix. So I emailed the guy and he said.... Just so you know, the mast looks like it had been broken at some point but it was professionally welded back together and works just fine. That is why it is only $375.

So I go take a look. To my surprise, the mast was very nicely repaired and all looked good. I found a small ding in the gel coat of the port hull, (easy fix), the sails are in great shape, the trailer was usable... The tramp was good, the rigging solid...I could not see any structural problems,

I'm about to hand this guy some money and sign a bill of sale when I happen to lean on the foredeck of the starboard hull and ... it is totally delaminated.

Hmmmm...... if you are going to the trouble to mention the repaired issues with a boat (and cite that as the reason for such a good deal) but leave out a significant structural problem with the boat... makes you wonder about the integrity of the seller.

At $375 it would have still been worth it for the rigging, trailer and sails but... I don't need another project boat in my life right now (I got two of those already). So I walked.
