Cure for the reverse prop walk.

A canadien customer was at my store the other day and upon seeing my Cutter in the parking lot struck a conversation with me regarding sailboats. He has a Jeanneau 36.2 and was describing the new Jeanneau he was considering. It has a pod prop amidship and steers and can maneuvre in any direction like the large cruise ships. What will they think of next? Variable pitch props for the masses??

Not so much amidships, but a saildrive that swivels 360 and a synchronized bow thruster.

I think that I heard that this is a $10k option!

If we add the additional maintenance of a saildrive this could be an expensive option over 5-10 years.

but there is other news.
Sail drives are a pain in the butt in your in salt water. You see they are made of aluminum, with stainless parts and assorted metal components. mix that with some salt water and a little stray current running around your matina and you have a costly problem. They disolve.
I reciently saw a late model tartan in the yard. it had been in the water for 20 months. there were golf ball sized holes in the unit. you could see daylight out the other side.

I saw a tarten in florida with a sail drive you could throw a golf ball thru. litterally holes all over it. It had been in salt water in florida for 20 months.

I usually plan on two years for a haul out. .

That would pretty much suck.

Yeah, and a rubber gasket with crap for a life expectancy that will sink your boat when it fails! No thanks, keep mine traditional and I'll deal with the prop walk. Sail drive, no thank you...cheap for the builder, nightmare for the owner.

put on a max prop and the prop walk becomes much less a factor.

I don't know how I would turn my boat in it's own length without prop walk. You can get used to only turing right, even if you have to turn 270 degrees

I just want to know what the couple did with the kid in the video, looks like they just abandoned him after docking, I think that warrants a call to child protective services.

Very cool in someone else's boat, in my Humble opinion..
Ohhhhthe kid must have been marveling at the magic self-tying dock lines!
