Just came back from Santiago de Cuba. Wonderful and weird. Anyhow, the whole thing is a very long story, but here is a photo of Santiago Bay and the Marina Marlin and Yacht Club. We didn't go into the marina since we were staying with Cubans who were not permitted in it or on the docks. Most of the boat registry was French, with a few Brits and one Canadian. Santiago de Cuba is on the south east side, on the opposite side of the island from Havana. Looks like it would be a wonderful cruising destination. Rick Dinon

Great Place, Terry

Without getting into the politics, it must be a great cruising ground. You can see the many bays and islands on the north central and south central that look wonderful. Santiago is just a short trip from the Dominican Republic from where, I suspect, unauthorized US boats visit. Cubans do not stamp your passport if you are from the US. It is a huge gamble to go there as an unauthorized US traveller; the problem is on the US side, not the Cuban side. However, you will find prices in Cuba are not inexpensive and supplies, even for visitors, are hard to come by. Still, the colonial buildings, artwork, music and beautiful people are well worth the trip. Next to Mexicans, they are certainly the friendliest people I have met. And, the women are spectacular. I would guess the women feel the same for the men, since it is a very popular spot for single women on vacation too. Rick D.

Hi Rick, I am glad you liked Santiago, I grew up there (after 1959), it was a great place to live, t I had my best times over there. I left Santiago 26 years ago and the island 13. One of my dreams was having a sail boat, now that I own one, the idea is sail over there and explore all the shore line. Hopefully things change here so we all can go and things change there so I can sail over. As a Cuban we can only arrive by plane. Good luck Mojito.
