I am looking to get a cruising spinnaker. I know that there are a lot of choices as far as sailmakers has anyone had any good or bad experiences with sailmakers. Any info would be appreciated.

I like North but a little expensive.

The quality is there as well as the service if you don't mind paying a preimum for it. Halsey Lidgard make a great kite as well, still on the pricy side as well.

Make sure you get a snuffer.

If you are new to spinnakers make sure you get a douser. It is a device that will allow you douse the spinnaker. It is real handy when the wind picks up and you want to get rid of the kite. They are not that expensive well worth the extra cost.

I once bought a Sail Warehouse cruising spinnaker. Neadless to say I will never do that agian. Probably the worst shape I have ever seen. I think I was able to go faster wing on wing. Also made the mistake of not getting the douser. After buying from a different sailmaking I made sure to get the douser. Completly different experiance.

Easy way out.

I have a friend that purchased a Cruising Direct, I believe they call it a gennaker, he said it was a no brainer. Even though it was not custom he said it fit really well.

Any links to info on spinnaker trim?

Does any one have any good links to spinnaker triming. How easy is it to trim one.

Chute Trim

Sail Magazine Had an article on Genneker trim on a recent issue... I think it was November 2005 but I am not certain of the month. My two cents worth on sources... you may spend a bit more money if you buy from North or one of the better knowm suppliers, but at least you will end up with something that works. I am partial to North, and have had North racing sails on my smaller boats for years. I have a North Gennaker, that was cut for my present boat (Beneteau 323), and it is quite easy to handle with just two of us. I have a sleeve whuich nakes it easier to douse, and use it when my wife is sailing with me. My son and I can handle the sail without the sleeve. Its a little trickier than a big Genoa, but easier to handle than a conventional Chute,

North Kites

How about Cruising Direct. I heard that they are owned by North Sails. But are less $$$. Is North and Cruising Direct apples to apples, or oranges to apples.

Try cruising direct.....

I'm very happy with mine. Good service and the price is right. The snuffer/douser is much cheaper than the aftermarket type in West Marine Catalogue. The sail came with a sleeve to wrap around a furled headsail so you don't need to buy one of those overpriced "tacker" things. Go the the website for complete information on rigging, trimming and measuring. http://www.cruisingdirect.com
