The bow pulpit gets in the way of the cruising spinnaker when changing tacks and I'm having trouble with this . The sail gets hung up at the tack and the sail will not switch sides easily. Short of removing the pulpit ... ( wouldn't THAT be fun under sail !! )...does anyone have a suggestion? The tack has an adjustable pennant but that doesn't help much.

Workable Solution

Maniathe, Make or have made a small collar(sail cloth or webbing) to go around your jib stay or furled jib. This collar is to anchor a small snatch block. Feed the tack line through this snatch block. If you work it out right then it will keep the tack line from rubbing on the bow pulpit. Frank

Similar solution....

First, I am assuming that you meant changing jibes rather than tacks, cause a gennaker is not designed to tack. If you have the sail rigged correctly you can't tack anyway. That means that the spinnaker halyard block must be positioned in front of the forestay and the sheets are led around the outside of everything, including the forestay. That said, here's a solution similar to Frank's. Attach another shackle or clip to the end of the tack line so you can clip the whole thing directly to the forestay. To protect a furled sail, fashion a dacron collar with a couple of eyelets to allow it to be snapped around the sail to the tack clip. If the problem persists, maybe you need a longer tackline (the pennant attached to the tack). It should be adjusted so the tack of the sail is high enough to clear the pulpit.
