Can anyone provide contacts that are good sailing resources for information about quality launching ramps [for a 3 foot draft], overnight anchorages, or transient docking and berthing? I'm also seeking specific sources of local lake charts. Recomendations of favorite cruising routes are most welcome. Thanks for your help . . . Bruce

Lake Winnebago

Bruce- The best place to launch out of pn the lake is at Oshkosh. The Pioneer Marina has a beautiful launch, long and deep, with a secure place to store your tow vehicle when cruising. From here you can cruise to any location on the lake and return in the same day. From Oshkosh you can wonder all directions. There is only really seven harbors that you can go to. Neenah, Menasha, High Cliff, Stockbridge, Calumet Harbor, Fond Du Lac, and Oshkosh. All of the harbors have nice facilities. High Cliff is by far the neatest place to go, its a State Park with some many other things to offer. The best source for lake charts will be at West Marine, I know the store in Madison carries the NOAA chart book and the Fishing Hot Spot map for Winnebago. If you want you can stop in WM in Oshkosh we have them too. This all you will need. The lake is very easy to navigate, with only a few areas to avoid. There is no little rock hump in the middle of any of your destinations that needs to be avoided. I would think (hope) that you are planning to make the trip next year. The water is damn near hard till next April. Anymore questions email me at Rhessenius@new.rr.com Have fun, Rob Hessenius

Rob- Thanks for your infomation about sailing and facilities on Lake Winnebago. You're right about the boating season coming to an end. I'd hoped for one more warm weekend this season but that now seems quite unlikely. Bruce

Lake Winnebago Sailing

Hi Bruce, I have sailed Lake Winnebago for the past 3 years. Rob is right there are only seven places to stay that are protected. My favorite is Stockbridge harbor. There is a restaurant/bar at the top of the hill right next to the harbor. The boat ramp has electric and restroom facilities but no showers. Showers are at Calumet park or High Cliff. There are very few anchorages that are protected, Oshkosh, has one. Neenah has a harbor that you can pull in to and tie up for the night, but no elec or water. There are a few really good restaurants in Neenah that are a 10 min walk from the harbor. A three foot draft will get you almost anywhere on the lake just keep an eye on your charts. Neenah has a new boat launch right next to Theda-Clark hospital on Doty Island that will take a boat with your draft. Happy Sailing! Dave
