We did that
As you know, there are not any major charting companies in Hawaii. There are a couple small companies, and we chartered a 50 Beneteau out of Honolulu for a week. (I would have to research the charter company). I was told that state law prohibits bare-boat charters and that we had to have a captain aboard. The routes were somewhat fixed, and we visited a few islands, anchoring out most of the time and watching the whales jump. We would take the dinghy to visit the islands. The captain was there as a guide to get us into the the proper places on the islands visited and we actually "sailed" the boat. It was a fantastic trip and I know you will enjoy yourself.
