I have recently purchased a 1977 CSY-44 with Crosby mechanical refrigeration, which is dead. Should I attempt to get the current system fixed, or scrap it and replace. If replacement is the desired direction, what type of system would you recommend for extended off shore cruising?

..for someone that has a clue, but I'd suggest you start in Practical Sailor's website. They have an evaluation from readers on marine refriges this last year. There were some surprises, like how well the 12 Volt systems such as AB fared.. even for long range guys. In the meantime, you should have a marine refrig tech give you an evaluation.
