Just purchased a 1978 Cherubuini Hunter 33 and have some work to do on the old girl but she is a good vessel.

Boat has two professionally built refers where the quarter-berth should be. One has 2 cold plates (freezer) and one has one cold plate (refer). The Crosby compressor still runs well but has been in since 1981, and the freon loop is bad and needs to be replaced. Unit is raw water cooled so there's another hull penetration that I don't need.

Question is - should I rebuild the freon loop and have it charged with the replacement hot shot they use now for R-12, or pull the unit, add a unit such as the Danfoss BD35, and two new condensors? I am trying to get rid of as many of the thru-hulls as possible because the guy who owned it before me never put in any siphon loops on any of then, except the head.

Refer boxes themselves are in good shape and I don't want to just have AC refridgeration w/an inverter down here in the tropics.

Love the boat and the site. Thanks.
