Sure can, especially if there are halides (chlorine, bromine, iodine, etc.) as contamination in an oxygen poor environment ... and also if there is any 'fatigue' involvement, 'threads' or other sharp geometric forms and/or in any 'acidic' environment. Can also be a poor quality Stainless with below minimum chromium etc. content.

Only if an electrolite is present. Kept perfectly dry in a bag of salt will present no corrosion but if any water is added the game changes. Even carbon steel will not corrode if it is kept perfectly dry. Perfectly dry is not even one molecule of water present.
