Creaking Noise

Over the Labor Day weekend I was sailing close hauled in about 16 knots of wind and a somewhat loud and annoying creaking noise started coming from the forward deck. I went forward to see if I could tell where it was originating but I couldn't be certain. It seemed to be coming from the mast area and maybe where the boom connects, but I could not be certain.

It was really annoying and I have to admit it caused me some concern. Anyone experienced anything similar?

try lubing the goosneck

with a non-oily lubricant such as Sailcote or it's equivalernt.

Boom Vang

Tighten the boom vang. Mine has started making the same kind of noise recently. I leave it loose when sailing off the wind. If I don't snug it up on a close reach it rides in-and-out over wakes and chop.

I'll give that a try and let you know how it turns out.

I really appreaciate this forum and used it to solve a number of issues since purchases my 356 early this year.
