A while back, someone suggested installing their remote control on a piece of star board mounted on the starboard stern pulpit. Crazy Dave respondied and advised against it. Dave - are you out there? Why do you advise not putting it there? Anyone else know why?

I installed it just like your picture shows Michael, and it work just fine. Now I don't have to turn around when shifting or changing the throttle. Just perfect toomas

This was the set-up Condon reacted to as a "bad idea" without being specific. I love the looks of it ;D and it beats the pants off bending down to throttle and shift while trying to steer into a slip with a tiller. Best I can figure, he may have objected to the routing of the cable. Can you share how you routed the cable? A picture would be perfect, but telling me where you wire-tired the cable (to the stern seat support?) and looped it (or not) would be most helpful.

There was a photo of engine controls on the stern rail. Please provide that again and then I can tell you. My problem is I work 15 hour days of which sometimes on the average, 30 minutes per day are emails which I try to answer or phone calls to help folks out. Remember I am a full hunter dealer as well as representing two other lines and I am plumb busy taking care of my folks like taking care of boats or service calls at 5 am on a saturday to keep up with the work load. Provide the picture again please.

RLewis, The picture you posted is of a side rail installation. Your original post refered to a stern installation. This stern installation was done by George Kobernus and is in the photo/project forum under H26/260 remote controls.

H260 Throttle Location
I would tend to agree with Dave that the stern location is not optimum. It is more natural for the throttle to be on the side rail because pushing forward and back gets the logical result. My installation is on the stern rail and I've had to lable the throttle with a big "R" and "F" to help me remember which way to push the throttle. I chose this location because it seemed to me that portside docking would be more of a challenge with the throttle on the opposite side. I'm rethinking the whole thing. George Kobernus

Okay - I don't know a stern pulpit from a corner rail. My question relates to a side rail installation that Dave recommended against. I like the way it looks; the throttle is fore and aft; I guess port side docking would be slightly more difficult to single hand, but the only thing that could be better is a stern rail installation and I don't like that because of the less intuitive forward/reverse movement of the throttle as George mentioned. I dislike the foot room the remote control takes up in the cockpit. Where I have it now results in a tight circle of the throttle cable - it's in the far aft slanting wall of the cockpit right above the engine well. The cable is wearing and the throttle is getting tough to shift because the radius is just too tight.
